“Wisdom is by far the greatest part of joy, and reverence toward the gods must be safegarded. The mighty words of the proud are paid in full with mighty blows of fate, and at long last those blows will teach us wisdom.” – Sophocles, Antigone

Hi there! I’m Jon, an instructor in the philosophy department at Sacramento State University. My research lies in ethics and Classical Confucianism. I am also interested in the role that technology plays in human flourishing. Human augmentation, artificial intelligence, and personal identity tend to pique my interest. Come visit me during office hours to chat! I will probably be eating a strawberry-flavored Pop-Tart® toaster pastry, because I have a couple boxes of them. You are welcome to have one too, though my stock is limited. I also have candy.
